It's not possible to close the Firefox window so that the system can release memory. Whenever the system freezes, the mouse cursor stops moving within seconds and the whole system freezes completely. While it's not a Fedora issue that Firefox uses an absurd amount of memory for a bunch of webpages (not one of them with multimedia content), it is quite inappropriate of a modern operating system to suddenly become unresponsive like Windows 98 did 20 years ago. In a recent case, the Firefox main process used about 700 MB and 3 Web processes used about 900 MB each. System monitor tools like "ksysguard" often show multiple "Web" processes that belong to Firefox. First and last meminfo collected by job when frozeĪ system with 8 GB of RAM regularly freezes without a warning while Firefox is apparently using up to half of that memory and no other application is in use.
